FAQ’s

How do I know which service to book?

Please use the following definitions for length of hair (when dry) and use these definitions when booking your service:

  • Short curly hair - from an inch long pixie cut to chin length

  • Medium curly hair - From chin length to just past the collar bone

  • Long hair - past collar bone to top of chest/a few inches past shoulders.

  • Mid-back or “Bra line” length is considered extra long hair and may require more time and an additional charge. For people with hair this length, or if your hair is extra thick, please consult with us before booking your appointment.

How should I wear my hair for my appointment?

During your first appointment it is important to have at least one day of clean and normally styled hair. In other words, please do not have extremely dirty/oily hair or wash your hair and then come to your appointment with wet hair. We need to be able to assess your curls and scalp health in order to determine your cut. Three days or more unwashed hair and pulled into a ponytail will make this assessment difficult for your stylist.

How often should I wash my hair?

This depends on your scalp and hair type. Typically fine and oily should be washed every 1-2 days. Medium to coarse hair with natural oils should be washed every 2-3 days. If your scalp is very dry and your hair is on the coarser side, we recommend that you wash it once or twice a week. Using the proper professional hair products aid in the styling and health of the scalp and hair.

How often should I cut my curly hair?

This depends on the individual and hair design style.

  • Shorter hair should be cut every 5-6 weeks to keep the shape of the cut.

  • Medium length curls should be cut every 6-8 weeks.

  • Long hair should be cut every 2-4 months.

Not all hair cuts need to be dramatic. A half inch shape-up cut can freshen up the look and feel of your curls. Your stylist will help you determine a routine that works for your lifestyle and hair type.

What are the best hair products for my hair type?

We use and offer some of the best products for curly hair on the market.

  • The popular New York brand, Ouidad, is specially made for curly hair and offers a range from fine and limp curls to super frizzy and dry coarse curls.

  • We also carry the Australian luxury line of products from Kevin Murphy. They have a dedicated line for medium-fine to medium-coarse hair that is easy to use and has a fabulous scent that will continuously get you compliments.

  • VERB is a low fragrance and vegan line that has become very popular in our salon by staff and clients. It is fantastic for those who are sensitive to fragrance but want a product they can depend on.
